Podia vs. Teachable : Which is right for me ?
Great question! We obviously think we’re pretty great, but here’s an honest answer:
Both platforms let you sell online courses, digital downloads, memberships, and coaching. Both give you landing pages, affiliate program tools, and helpful selling features like coupons, payment plans, and upsells.
But while Teachable primarily focuses on courses, Podia lets you combine your products with a community so you have space to build real relationships with your customers. You can create membership subscriptions, bundle your community with products and events, and set up spaces where you and your members can connect.
Let’s take a closer look at how Podia and Teachable stack up.
Pricing for Podia and Teachable
Podia and Teachable both have several plans, so you can choose the best fit for your business.
Podia pricing
Podia has three plans: Mover, Shaker, and Earthquaker. All Podia plans come with your website, digital products, community, and unlimited members and sales.
Podia has a 30-day free trial that lets you test everything, too, so you can make sure it’s the right fit before buying.
- Mover: $49/month and 5% transaction fee ($42/month when paid annually): Includes your community, website builder, blog, landing pages, digital products, and courses, with 50 products and 25 community spaces.
- Shaker: $99/month and 0% transaction fee ($84/month when paid annually): Includes everything in Mover, plus affiliate marketing, upsells, 1 assistant seat, and integrations with PayPal, Zoom, and Zapier, plus 150 products and 100 community spaces.
- Earthquaker: $179/month and 0% transaction fee ($150/month when paid annually): Includes everything in Shaker, with unlimited products, unlimited assistant seats, unlimited video storage, and unlimited community spaces.
All Podia plans include email marketing features like automations, newsletters, email templates, segmentation, tagging, and campaigns. Mover includes up to 100 subscribers, Shaker includes up to 500 subscribers, and Earthquaker includes up to 1,000 subscribers. You can also pay for more subscribers on any plan as your list grows.
Podia also includes a free migration service on paid plans. The team will move your products and customers over from another platform so you can get set up faster without extra work. Learn more about how migrations work here (https://help.podia.com/en/articles/11370439-migrating-your-products-to-podia).
Teachable pricing:
Teachable has three main pricing plans and a 7-day free trial. They also offer a custom Enterprise plan for larger organizations, but you’ll have to contact their sales team to get the pricing details.
- Starter: $39/month with a 7.5% transaction fee ($29/month when paid annually): Includes 5 published products, up to 100 students, course certificates, and upsells and cart recovery
- Builder: $89/month with 0% transaction fee ($69/month when paid annually): Includes 10 published products, up to 1,000 students, and everything in Starter, plus affiliates and real-time support
- Growth: $189/month with 0% transaction fee ($139/month when paid annually): Includes 50 published products, up to 5,000 students, 5 admin users, and everything in Builder, plus the ability to import students and remove Teachable branding
Let's run the numbers to get a better picture of how much you'll pay with each platform.
Podia's Mover plan costs $49/month, and Teachable's Starter plan costs $39/month, but Teachable charges a higher transaction fee. If you earn $1,000 in a month, here's what you actually pay:
- On Teachable's Starter plan: $39 for the plan plus $75 in transaction fees (7.5%) comes to $114 total. You're also capped at 5 published products and 100 students.
- On Podia's Mover plan: $49 for the plan plus $50 in transaction fees (5%) comes to $99 total, with 50 products and no student caps.
The other thing to keep in mind is that Teachable caps the number of products you can make and the number of students you can teach on all plans. This could be a big limitation as you go, since there really isn’t an option to make more than 50 products unless you reach out about a custom plan.
On Podia, you can have unlimited students on all plans, and you can make unlimited products with unlimited video storage on the Earthquaker plan, so there’s no ceiling on how much you can grow.
Build courses and digital products in the same place you run your community
Teachable offers courses, downloads, memberships, and coaching, but there are limits to how many products you can sell on each plan.
Teachable plan limits:
- Starter: 5 products
- Builder: 10 products
- Growth: 50 products
If you want to make more than 50 products on Teachable, you'll need to work with them for a custom pricing solution.
With Podia, you can sell online courses, downloads, webinars, coaching, subscriptions, and product bundles. Mover and Shaker have more generous plan limits, and you can upgrade to Earthquaker if you want unlimited products.
Podia plan limits:
- Mover: 50 products
- Shaker: 150 products
- Earthquaker: Unlimited
By choosing a platform with more space and lots of different product types like Podia, your business has room to grow. You may come up with an idea for a fabulous new ebook or an awesome live event, and it’s inconvenient (and expensive) to find a new tool each time.
On top of that, Podia also has a community feature so you can spend time with your members in a space you control. You can make open or private community spaces, charge for community access, and bundle community plans with products and events for more flexibility.
Blogging is included, alongside your products, website, and email list
While both Podia and Teachable have a website builder, one key difference is that Podia also includes a blog. And that blog is automatically linked to your website, products, and email list, so it's easy to send visitors from blog posts to your products, and back again.
You can add unlimited blog posts and customize the design and layout of your articles, as well as your blog landing page. And if you have a blog on another platform, you can import your existing blog content using Podia's blog post importer.
Plus, you can do all your blogging using the same user-friendly website builder, so you don’t need to learn any new tools.
Teachable does not have a blogging feature, so you’ll need to use a third-party platform to set up a blog in your online business.
Full email marketing for your business
With Podia, you get a complete email marketing toolkit built in, which includes automations, lead magnets, campaigns, tagging, segmentation, and newsletter templates. You can schedule out messages, see what sales came from each email, and build automated campaigns based on actions your audience members take with your business.
All email features are included on all plans, and you get:
- 100 subscribers on Mover
- 500 subscribers on Shaker
- 1000 subscribers on Earthquaker
You can upgrade any time as your list grows, and plans are competitively priced, starting at just $7 per month for up to 500 subscribers.
Teachable takes a different approach. Their email tool is available on the Builder plan ($89/month, or $69/month billed annually) and above, but it only lets you message people who have already purchased or enrolled through your school.
You can send broadcast announcements, and there’s a basic newsletter sign-up form you can use to grow your list, but you’ll need to use a third-party tool for advanced features like email scheduling and automated campaigns.
